She Doesn't Get the Rules

This work explores the role of the muse and channels the surrealist technique of automatism while examining the inability for the avant-garde to be radical under a patriarchal capitalist system. The piece plays with the lecture format, the original being a short PowerPoint performance presented at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, and later expanded for a performance at A.I.R. Gallery, Brooklyn, as well as a three-part performance for Gallery 44, Toronto. She Doesn't Get the Rules is part of a series of lecture-based performances based on my interest in pop culture and the re-telling of art history through a feminist lens.
